第30课 NORA'S LAST DAY

The 4 Ps are a term used in marketing (the good English version!). They refer to Product, Price, Position and Promotion - the four elements of the marketing mix. Also, "I never stop" should be "I have never stopped".

Mei Ling: Well everyone - I think it's time I said a few words. (Pause) Nora - we're all going to miss you very much, you know.

All: Yes, sure are (etc)

Mei Ling: This is a gift from all of us.

Mei Ling: I'd also like to thank Nora for all her efforts during our Speak Good English drive.

Nora: Thank you. Thank you so much.

Mei Ling: We've certainly come a long way since Jane first arrived. Do you remember the that time when the CEO thought we'd fired you, Nora...?

Replay...

Jane: But we haven't fired anyone.

Nora: Jaya fired me when I forgot to save those files last month.

Mei Ling: And the CEO thinks you've lost your job because of it. That's what fired means in good English.

Nora: But I didn't lose my job - he only fired me.

Jane: I think you mean that he told you off.

Mei Ling: And then there was all the work we did on improving our pronunciation and telephone skills...

Replay...

Jane: (realizing) I know! They think we're selling food.

Gary: What?

Jane: Say the name of the company.

Gary: Hotdogcom.

Jane: Again.

Gary: Hotdogcom.

Jaya: Aaaah! I think I see. You are saying Hotdog.

Gary: No I'm not.

Jane: Yes, you are. Say it again.

Gary: Hotdogcom. (Realizing) Aaaah! Funny.

Jane: Maybe it is funny - but we are losing customers. You have to be careful. Especially on the phone.

Jaya: Try saying: "Hello. HotDotCom. How can I help?"

Gary: Hello. HotDotCom. How can I help?

Jaya: You know I think Gary's made more progress than anyone. Do you remember some of those grammar mistakes:

Replay...

Gary: Wah! So fast! Jane she very lucky one! Same one - how to get?

Jaya: Ask me one question in good English, Gary, and I might get you a new computer, too!

Gary: Oh....okay.

How... how do I get a computer like Jane's?

Jaya: Brilliant! You're making progress, Gary!

Mei Ling: Sadly, this is the last Speak Good English Phone-in lesson. We hope that you've enjoyed making progress with us. Now it's goodbye from all of us at HotDotCom.

All: Goodbye!
